Pathos

When Pathos was six years old, I rescued him from an animal shelter where he had been placed on the ‘kill list’. He passed away in August 2020 at the age of 14. It certainly was not my first dog, but this dog lived up to its name: it reacted instinctively and immediately to situations involving emotions. If, for example, my other – much older – dog was in danger of being assaulted by another dog or a person and I was thinking “This is not going well at all”, Pathos would come running from 100 or 200 meters away to ‘save the situation’. Even me silently groaning about a situation “not now please” was enough for Pathos to react. The response was not always adequate, but always well intentioned.

Pathos – the Greek word for emotion – is the name and theme of my website and working method.

I learned, by looking at dogs, that they not only express their own emotions, they also react to ours. When I was a child, I knew this intuitively. After having worked with dogs for decades, I learned it again from Pathos.
